Chris Godwin returning to Buccaneers on huge $66 million deal after crushing injury

Chris Godwin is staying in South Florida.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers re-signed their star receiver to a three-year, $66 million deal, according to multiple reports, after Godwin again showed off his strong skills this past season while playing next to future Hall of Famer Mike Evans.

The three-year contract likely would have been worth even more money had Godwin not dislocated his ankle in Week 7 for the Buccaneers, prematurely ending his season.

Godwin posted 50 catches for 576 yards and five touchdowns in seven games.

He projected to accumulate 121 catches, 1,399 yards and 12 touchdowns over 17 games, which would have been career-high numbers for the star receiver.

Despite losing Godwin around the midpoint of the season, the Buccaneers still made the playoffs after winning the NFC South with a 10-7 record.

The three-year deal coming off his second major leg injury is at least a little surprising considering Jalen McMillan stepped up amicably in his stead.

McMillan scored seven touchdowns in the Buccaneers’ final five regular-season games, although he came up quite a bit smaller in a 23-20 loss to the Commanders in the Wild Card round.

Surely, the Buccaneers would argue that they could have beaten Washington if they had Godwin available for that game.

Tampa Bay also is signing former Jets edge rusher Hᴀsson Reddick to a one-year contract worth $14 million.

The Buccaneers should be improved in 2025, but the rest of the division, which was arguably the worst in the NFL last year, is also expected to be better next year.
