Philadelphia Eagles lose Super Bowl heroes Milton Williams and Josh Sweat as major shake up continues

The Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl-winning defense is falling apart piece by piece just over a month after dominating the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans for the Lombardi trophy.

On Monday afternoon, a wave of player movement surged over the NFL and the Birds were not safe from the roster shuffles that took place.

At 2.12pm ET, Ian Rapoport reported that defensive tackle Milton Williams signed with the New England Patriots. Adam Schefter later detailed that agreement was a four-year, $104m deal that includes $63m guaranteed.

Schefter also noted that the Carolina Panthers joined the auction for Williams’ services but could not match the price tag New England offered.

Mere minutes later, Schefter reported that linebacker Josh Sweat reached an agreement on a 4-year deal worth $76.4 million, including $41 million guaranteed with the Arizona Cardinals.

The deal was negotiated by agent Drew Rosenhaus, who helped wide receiver Braxton Berrios secure a one-year, $2m deal with the Texans earlier on Monday.

The linebacker made 148 solo and 89 ᴀssisted tackles with 43 sacks in an Eagles uniform. He also tallied a touchdown from a 42-yard interception from 2022.

Sweat and Milton combined for 17 tackles and 4.5 sacks in the postseason before departing from Philadelphia. They also contributed four ten tackles in the defensive masterclass against Kansas City to win the Super Bowl.

New England finished last in the AFC East with a 4-13 record. On the other hand, the Cardinals were third in the NFC West at 8-9.
