BREAKING NEWSFans are left split as Minnesota Vikings tie down star man to huge new $20million contract

The Vikings have handed star running back Aaron Jones a bumper new two-year, $20million contract to keep him in Minnesota.

The deal, which was negotiated by Drew Rosenhaus, will see Jones earn a guaranteed $13m, and ensure he stays for a second season with the team.

Prior to joining Minnesota, he played seven years in Green Bay, before being released and signing a one-year, $7m contract with the Vikings.

He has now bumped up his salary at the age of 30, and has the potential to earn $10m a year if he meets various incentives in his deal.

Fans were left split at the news, with some claiming that Jones’ new deal leaves the Vikings ‘not far away from being a real Super Bowl contender’.

Another claimed that Jones is the ‘most underrated back in the league’, while others believe it’s ‘a LOT of money for his age’.

In his first year in Minnesota, Jones set career highs in touches (306), carries (255) and offensive snaps (700), and he played in every game of both the regular season and postseason.

He did endure a series of niggling injuries throughout the year, including issues with his hip, rib and quadriceps.

The main question remaining for the Vikings heading into the 2025 season is who plays quarterback, with Aaron Rodgers emerging as a ‘dark horse’ option for the team in the last 48 hours.

Sam Darnold is not expected to re-sign with the team, leaving them with JJ McCarthy as QB1 after missing his entire rookie season with a serious knee injury.

Despite the team still having belief that McCarthy will be their QB of the future, it is being reported that the team would still like to add a veteran to the roster.
