NFL quarterback Kirk Cousins makes shock visit to Donald Trump at the White House as trade talk intensifies

President Donald Trump welcomed a special guest from the world of sports to the White House today as the 47th president welcomed Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins to the Oval Office.

Cousins and Trump posed for a pH๏τo that was tweeted out by the Margo Martin, the Special ᴀssistant to the President and Communications Advisor.

Martin posted the pH๏τo of a smiling Cousins and a beaming Trump holding a thumbs-up with the caption ‘#18 [handshake emoji] #47’.

The numbers refer to Cousins’ jersey number, 18, and that Trump is the 47th President of the United States.

While this past fall was a very successful run for Trump, who won re-election to the White House, the same could not be said for Cousins.

After being named the Falcons’ starting quarterback, Cousins lost the gig to rookie Michael Penix Jr.

The Falcons ended up missing the playoffs last season, but Penix showed that there’s something to be had in putting trust in him.

Cousins, meanwhile, is having his name thrown about in trade discussions just one season after inking a gargantuan four-year, $180million contract at the age of 36.

His cap hit balloons from $25m last season to a whopping $40m in the 2025 season  – with a base salary of $27.5m and a signing bonus of $12.5m.

The Falcons do have an opt-out clause in his contract for the 2026 offseason, with Atlanta having to eat $35m in ᴅᴇᴀᴅ cap space if they cut him.

Last year, Cousins tied with Baker Mayfield for the most interceptions thrown and had the fourth-worst QBR among pᴀssers with at least 13 starts.
