Arizona State star Cam Skattebo sued by former teammate over golf cart incident

Arizona State star running back Cam Skattebo is being sued by a former teammate.

Skattebo is on the receiving end of a civil complaint on behalf of his former teammate, walk-on offensive lineman Mattheos Katergaris, who is seeking $300,000 in damages stemming from negligence resulting in an injury, as first reported by Arizona Republic.

The incident allegedly occurred in July 2023 when Skattebo is accused of jumping up and down on the back of a golf cart during football practice, which caused Katergaris to fall to the ground and injure his arm.

Katergaris ruptured an elbow tendon which required surgery and he says he has not fully recovered, according to his attorney Neil Udulutch.

He added that he incurred such hefty medical expenses that he still has outstanding bills.

Scattebo is being sued for one count of negligence resulting in injury, as Katergaris never played football again and remains in pain.

Process servers have attempted to find Skattebo to deliver the legal paperwork but were unable to do so and went to the “last resort,” which involves publishing the summons in a Maricopa County newspaper.

Skattebo was at the NFL combine in Indianapolis last week and is projected to be a Day 2 selection.

“I have reason to believe he was in Florida preparing for the combine and then I know he was in Indy. I don’t know if he even lives in Arizona anymore,” his attorney told the Arizona Republic. “Maybe he’s bouncing around H๏τels. I just don’t know, so I was done chasing him.”

Skattebo was not asked about the lawsuit at the combine, but did admit that he was “immature in years past.”

The 23-year-old led Arizona State to an NCAA College Football Playoff berth this past season, where the Sun devils nearly upset the Texas Longhorns.

Skattebo’s fierce running style was a sight to behold in that game.

He took 30 carries for 143 yards and two touchdown, while also grabbing eight balls for 99 yards and throwing for a touchdown in the 39-31 double overtime loss.

He finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting.
