Why Matthew Stafford’s uncertain NFL future drove wife Kelly ‘f***ing mad’

Why Matthew Stafford's uncertain NFL future drove wife Kelly 'f***ing mad'

Matthew Stafford’s wife Kelly has revealed that the recent uncertainty surrounding the quarterback’s future drove her ‘f***ing mad’.

Both the Giants and Raiders were keen to sign the 37-year-old, who led his team to the NFC divisional round in the 2024 season.

The quarterback ran into Tom Brady in Montana, while both Las Vegas and New York were reportedly ready to offer the quarterback $90-100million to leave Los Angeles.

But Stafford opted to stay with the Rams – for less money. He has now spoken out for the first time since shunning the Giants and Raiders, insisting those weeks of ‘uncertainty’ are ‘never fun’.

But Kelly Stafford has revealed that she did not cope nearly as well with the speculation as her husband.

‘He’s very good at compartmentalizing everything. Me on the other hand, when he says you think about the uncertainty all the time you go crazy, I went f***ing mad, I went so crazy,’ she said on ‘The Morning After’ podcast.

‘The uncertainty killed me in a lot of ways, but, at the end of the day, what I want is what’s best for (him).’

Kelly added: ‘This is where we both wanted to be, and I’m just glad he gets to play for the team and the coach (Sean McVay) that he wants to end his career with.’

Stafford said it was ‘humbling’ to have teams fighting over him. But the Super Bowl winner revealed how he was forced to find ways to occupy his mind to avoid going ‘crazy’ over his future.

‘Three weeks of that uncertainty is never fun, whether that’s in a job or life or whatever it is,’ he said on ‘The Morning After’.

‘You have to find things to occupy your time. I played a lot of golf, tried to work out, just things to kind of keep your mind off it cause you sit there and think about all those uncertainties all day you go crazy.’

The quarterback, who married Kelly in 2015, continued: ‘I was talking to Kelly the other day just about this process and how it can sometimes feel like such a negative, it’s a tough thing, you’re going through all these things.

‘But at the same time, I was talking to somebody and they gave me the perspective of: “Man, this is such a positive time in your life. You’re 37 years old, going into your 17th season and somebody still wants you to be on their team”… that’s a rare occurrence and something I don’t take for granted.’

The Giants reportedly met every one of the demands required to sign Stafford, even appointing the quarterback’s brother-in-law, Chad Hall, as ᴀssistant quarterbacks coach.

In the end, however, the Rams adjusted Stafford’s contract to ensure he will stay in Los Angeles for a fifth season. ‘I’m extremely excited to be back,’ he said.
