Jets cut Davante Adams to end another failed experiment

The Jets ended another failed experiment Tuesday by moving on from Davante Adams.

As has been expected from the moment last month that the Jets decided to part ways with Aaron Rodgers, the Jets released Adams, a source told The Post.

The Jets traded a third-round pick (No. 73 overall) in the upcoming draft to the Raiders for what wound up as an 11-game rental of Adams.

The trade was made at a time when the Jets were trying to salvage the 2024 season, even after firing head coach Robert Saleh.

Adams produced 67 catches for 854 yards and seven touchdowns in 11 games but couldn’t keep the Jets from sputtering to a 5-12 record.

Adams and Garrett Wilson were supposed to form one of the NFL’s best duos, but Rodgers’ connection with Adams seemed to stunt some of Wilson’s growth.

By releasing Adams, the Jets save slightly more than $29.8 million in salary-cap space and take on an $8.3 million ᴅᴇᴀᴅ-cap charge, according to overthecap.com

The Jets had hoped to trade the 32-year-old six-time Pro Bowler, but that was an unrealistic scenario because no team was going to inherit his whopper of a salary in the final year of his contract.

Allen Lazard — who, NFL Network reported, also is on the trade block — likely will be the next salary-cap casualty for the Jets.

Both Lazard and Adams were former Packers who came to the Jets for the opportunity to play again with Rodgers.

Is it possible the Rodgers-Adams-Lazard band could resurface in New York?

The Giants have had internal discussions about the possibility of pursuing Rodgers, and The Post’s Paul Schwartz reported that their belief is that Rodgers is the best available from a purely football standpoint.

Because he is getting released instead of leaving on an expired contract, Adams will be available to sign with a new team before the start of Monday’s free-agency tampering period.
