Kyrie Irving took a scary tumble Monday that forced him to leave the Mavericks’ game against the Kings early.
The nine-time NBA All-Star had to be helped off the court after he went flailing to the ground while attempting to drive down the lane and stayed on the court for several minutes in what could be a major Mavericks injury concern.
Team trainers came rushing onto the court to check on Irving, and after being looked at, he was helped over to the bench by new teammate Anthony Davis.
The decision earned him a pat on the back from a Kings player and chants of “M-V-P” from the American Airlines Center crowd.
Irving sank both free throws, and then he was once again helped off the floor by Davis — this time going to the Mavericks locker room.
The Dallas superstar clearly couldn’t put any weight on his left leg.
A replay of the incident seemed to show that the contact Irving made with DeMar DeRozan led to him losing his balance and falling awkwardly on his left leg.
No immediate update on Irving’s status was available.
The injury occurred with under three minutes left in the first quarter, and Irving exited the game with just seven points on 2-of-4 shooting from the field.
In a bizarre twist of fate, the injury occurred on Irving pin night, which was given to the first 5,000 fans that entered the arena.
