Former Milwaukee Bucks star Patrick Beverley has been sued by two women over a heated courtside altercation that occurred last year.
During a playoff defeat to the Indiana Pacers in May 2024, Beverley lost his temper and took his anger out on rival fans as the Bucks were eliminated from the NBA playoffs and their season ended.
Beverley was seen chucking a ball towards the Pacers supporters behind the Bucks’ bench, hitting a woman on the side of the head.
Two women, Jessica Simmons and Katie Lanciotti, have now filed a lawsuit against the 36-year-old and the Bucks organization, claiming they experienced medical expenses, mental anguish, humiliation and lost wages after the incident.
The lawsuit, which was filed in Marion County Superior Court on Friday, alleged that the guard launched a basketball into the side of Lanciotti’s so hard that it broke the necklace that she was wearing.
After another fan handed the ball back to Beverley, he threw it back into the crowd, this time striking Simmons in her chest and face, court documents claim.

Both women allege they suffered immediate pain and soreness as a result of being struck. They say they suffered immediate physical, mental and emotional damage and continued to experience symptoms after the incident.
The lawsuit claims that Simmons, her husband and at least two other fans were then escorted from the arena in a ‘perp walk’ fashion, despite ‘having done nothing to prompt Beverley’s actions.’
The fans were allegedly told by Gainbridge Fieldhouse staff to fill out written statements for security personnel, while Beverley was allowed to remain on the court.
He refused to answer a question about the incident after the game. But Beverley did address it on social media and initially defended his actions: ‘We warned and asked for help all night,’ he said about one fan’s behavior.
The NBA handed down a four-game suspension to Beverley in the aftermath of the incident.
However, the player has yet to serve the punishment following his decision to leave the Bucks in the NBA offseason. Beverley signed with an Israeli professional basketball team.
The NBA cited both the ‘forceful’ ball-throwing incident and the ‘inappropriate interaction with a reporter during media availability’ as reasons for the suspension. He was not fined by the league.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed in May that an investigation into the incident was being conducted.

‘The report has been forwarded to IMPD detectives, who are currently investigating this situation and take all accusations seriously,’ IMPD said in a statement. ‘Detectives are working with Gainbridge Fieldhouse to review video footage and plan to speak with the parties involved.’
However, in August, the IMPD confirmed that no criminal charges would be filed against him.
‘After a thorough review of law enforcement’s investigation, it has been determined that criminal charges will not be filed in this matter,’ the Marion County prosecutor’s office said.
However, prosecutors said at the time that there was still a possibility of a civil lawsuit being brought against Beverley, which proved to be true last week.
