Aaron Rodgers lined up for shock career change if he retires... despite saying he'd 'disappear' after quitting

Aaron Rodgers has been tipped to make a successful move into broadcasting if he retires from football on the back of his nightmare stint with the New York Jets.

The Jets are moving on from Rodgers, 41, after two disastrous years which saw him miss an entire campaign due to injury and put up some of the worst numbers of his career as the team went 5-12 last season.

It remains unclear what the legendary quarterback’s next move will be following his New York exit, with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Rams touted as two potential landing spots in 2025.

Yet after two decades in the NFL, he could decide the time is right to hang up his cleats and embark on a new chapter.

If he does call time on his playing career this offseason, The Athletic’s Richard Deitsch believes there is a chance Rodgers may venture into the TV world as an NFL studio analyst.

Deitsch described the four-time MVP as ‘one of the most cerebral subjects’ broadcasters and producers have ever come across in previous NFL production meetings, meaning he is likely to get calls from various networks if he chooses to retire.

CBS Sports producer Jim Rikhoff was quoted as saying about him: ‘He takes the time to think about answers. He doesn’t hit a ʙuттon and give you the cliched answer. He thinks about the question and gives you a different take than a lot of guys.’

His outspoken nature in the media, which reportedly concerned Jets officials before they went their separate ways, also makes him a highly-appealing option for TV execs.

Rodgers could receive an offer to join Fox’s NFL Sunday program as a studio analyst, Deitsch said, while ruling him out of following Tom Brady into the commentary booth.

However, one potential stumbling block for networks looking to hire the polarizing Super Bowl winner is the fact he has previously ruled himself out of a post-football career in broadcasting.

During one of his weekly appearances on the Pat McAfee show last year, Rodgers was asked if he would consider becoming an analyst once his playing days were over.

‘The answer is no,’ he insisted. ‘After this thing is done, you’re not gonna see me.

‘You’ll see me maybe in Tahoe, you’ll see me if I ever go back to Green Bay in four or five years, and then that’s about it.’

CBS reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala also claimed last year that Rodgers plans to go full ‘Keyser Söze’ when he retires and disappear – a reference to Kevin Spacey’s crime lord character who eventually vanishes without a trace in the 1995 movie ‘The Usual Suspects’.

DailyMail.com revealed back in November that the then-Jets quarterback had no intention of moving into broadcasting after retiring from football, instead setting his sights on a career in politics.

Rodgers has developed a close relationship with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in recent years, with both men notably skeptic of vaccines.

And Kennedy Jr., who was named president-elect Donald Trump’s nomination for for Secretary of Health & Human Services, had reportedly floated him on his shortlist for a running-mate, only for the NFL star to suggest he turned the opportunity down.

‘After his playing career ends, he will be asked to be a TV analyst and commentator but that isn’t something Aaron is very interested in doing,’ an insider told DailyMail.com.

‘He is interested in playing a few more years in the NFL, with the Jets, but if that doesn’t work out, he would consider going elsewhere for one more chance at a Super Bowl.

Rodgers, however, is more likely to embark on a career in politics - after Robert F. Kennedy Jr. considered him as a potential running-mate last year

‘But his post-playing days intentions are political. If it made sense, he would run for President or at least consider being a running mate in the way that RFK Jr. wanted him to be this year.

‘Once he is retired, he would have no problem attempting to try his hand for political office.

‘It is a very big realm of possibility for something that Aaron would like to try his hand at. It just makes sense to him and is something that interests him.

‘2028 is far away, but Aaron will be retired by then, and to start a career in politics is right up his alley and something he will take seriously.’
