Radio 2 legend Bob Harris has revealed shocking news that his long-standing battle with prostate cancer has now spread to his upper spine, describing recent weeks as āan extremely testing time.ā The 80-year-old broadcaster, who has been a cornerstone of the BBC for over 50 years, had previously announced a break from his shows, The Country Show and Sounds of the ā70s, due toĀ Ā healthĀ setbacks.
In a heartfelt Instagram update, Bob explained he was hospitalized in March after enduring excruciating back pain. āSeveral scans later, we discovered that my prostate cancer has got into my upper spine⦠really frightening news,ā he said. He immediately began a course of radiotherapy, spending two weeks in hospital, and is now at home recovering.
Bob celebrated being outdoors again, sharing a sun-soaked pHą¹Ļo with his son who took the sHą¹Ļ, and credited his family for unwavering support. āMy family has been here for me in a mį“ssive way, helping me through one of the most difficult times of my life. I canāt even begin to think of a way to say thank you. I love them so much,ā he wrote.
The veteran broadcaster also thanked the BBC, adding: āHelen Thomas [Head of Radio 2] and the @bbcradio2 family have also been supportive beyond words and I know for certain that Iāll be returning to my programmes as soon as I am able.ā Bob has set a personal target to return to The Country Show by mid-May and Sounds of the ā70s later that month.
