New Jaguars coach Liam Coen’s telling Trevor Lawrence comments after Steelers rumors

Liam Cohen is emphatically shutting the door on any rumors about the Jaguars not being fully committed to Trevor Lawrence.

“He’s our guy,” Coen, the new Jacksonville coach, told reporters Tuesday at the scouting combine in Indianapolis, as reported by NFL Network. “He’s the franchise.”

Lawrence’s standing in Jacksonville became a topic after the team fizzled out in 2024, leading to former Super Bowl-winning coach Doug Pederson getting the boot.

The quarterback did not help matters with his play, throwing just 11 touchdowns against seven interceptions and tallying 2,045 yards before suffering a season-ending injury.

The rumor mill then really started spinning when the Steelers reportedly reached out to the Jaguars to inquire about Lawrence, although some outlets reʙuттed that report.

A Jaguars source quickly sH๏τ down the “ridiculous” idea of trading Lawrence, telling ESPN there was “no chance” the former Clemson star would be moved.

Lawrence even had his agent call ESPN’s Adam Schefter to learn if the Steelers really had interest in him and received ᴀssurance the Jaguars didn’t plan to ship him out of town.

“You kind of think, I have a no-trade clause in my contract. I would know about it if I was getting traded or if that was something that was going to happen,” Lawrence said recently on “Up and Adams.”

“I’d have to be on board with it, which I’m not. I’m happy here in Jacksonville. We want to win a Super Bowl here and I think we can do that.

“My agent reached out to Adam Schefter and was just like, ‘Hey, you hear anything about this?’ (Coach) Liam (Coen) texted me the day after it came out and said ‘I shouldn’t even have to say this, but that’s not coming from us.’ He didn’t even have to send that. There was no doubt on my side.”

With Lawrence entrenched under center, the Jaguars hope Lawrence can lead a rebound under a new head coach in a soft division.

Coen told reporters Tuesday that he wants Lawrence to give “as much input as he can handle” and plans to funnel the pᴀssing attack through first-year phenom Brian Thomas Jr.
