Megyn Kelly performs dramatic U-turn on Eagles' White House visit after eviscerating Super Bowl champions

Megyn Kelly has backtracked on her furious criticism of the Philadelphia Eagles after it was revealed the Super Bowl champions will be visiting the White House contrary to recent reports.

As is custom after major sporting events, the Eagles have been invited to the White House by president Donald Trump following their 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LIX earlier this month.

Yet given they rejected the same offer after their previous championship win in 2018, many had speculated that Philadelphia could snub Trump again and turn down his invitation for a second time.

Kelly, who joined Trump on his campaign trail last year ahead of his election win in November, picked up a report on X which suggested the Eagles would refuse to go to the White House again after their latest Super Bowl win.

‘GO F YOURSELVES EAGLES,’ the former Fox host posted alongside the report. ‘My husband is a fan so I got onboard but F this BS’.

However, rumors of another Eagles White House snub were quickly shut down by CNN’s Jake Tapper, who is a die-hard fan of the team.

Tapper claims to have received a message from an Eagles source which reads: ‘We would be honored to visit the White House. It’s one of the things we had looked forward to doing and we look forward to receiving the invitation.’

His revelation has forced Kelly into a dramatic U-turn, with the conservative journalist accepting defeat and admitting the Eagles are now doing ‘the right thing’.

Along with a confusing statement about the New York Giants, she wrote in light of Tapper’s report: ‘Looks like the Eagles are prepared to do the right thing. This time.’

Back in 2018, Trump infamously disinvited Philadelphia from the customary visit to the White House amid talk of a player boycott due to his criticism of national anthem protests in the NFL at the time.

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie had also branded his first term as president a ‘disaster’ just months earlier.

‘The Philadelphia Eagles are unable to come to the White House with their full team to be celebrated tomorrow,’ read a Trump statement at the time.

‘They disagree with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country.

‘The Eagles wanted to send a smaller delegation, but the 1,000 fans planning to attend the event deserve better. These fans are still invited to the White House to be part of a different type of ceremony – one that will honor our great country, pay tribute to the heroes who fight to protect it, and loudly and proudly play the National Anthem.’

Curiously, Trump has not yet congratulated the Eagles despite previously toasting the Chiefs for their latest Super Bowl berth.

He’s also praised Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, the latter of whom ‘liked’ a pair of Trump-related social media posts during the campaign.

The Hunt family, which owns the Chiefs, also has a history of supporting conservative causes.

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, on the other hand, has a record of supporting left-leaning politicians, such as Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, although he previously donated to Republicans George W. Bush and Arlen Specter as well.
