Patrick Mahomes suffers more heartbreak after Super Bowl humbling as he watches Texas Tech basketball defeat

Patrick Mahomes was left with his head in his hands again on Monday night after watching Texas Tech lose a crucial basketball showdown with Houston.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, who suffered a humbling defeat at Super Bowl LIX earlier this month, attended his former college’s basketball game against the Houston Cougars with wife Brittany by his side at United Supermarkets Arena.

Despite pᴀssionately urging them on from the sidelines, he could only watch on as his 10th-ranked school were beaten 69-61 on the night, a result which saw No. 4 Houston clinch at least a share of the Big 12 regular-season тιтle.

It proved another disappointing evening for Mahomes just over two weeks on from his crushing loss at the Super Bowl, with ESPN cameras capturing him looking dejected in the stands while wearing a Texas Tech T-shirt as the Red Raiders came unstuck.

The 29-year-old endured one of the worst performances of his career earlier this month in New Orleans, where he threw two costly interceptions while being sacked six times in a 40-22 defeat against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The eventual score line flattered Kansas City in the end, with Philadelphia leading them 31-0 at one stage in a dominant showing at Caesars Superdome.

Mahomes and the Chiefs missed out on a historic three-peat as a result, which would have seen them become the first team of the Super Bowl era to win it three years in a row.

In the wake of that defeat, he had been keeping a low profile before heading to United Supermarkets Arena on Monday night.

Mahomes, who is sporting an eye-catching new look – was given a hero’s welcome as he made a surprise return to Texas Tech for their basketball battle with Houston.

‘Back home’ the school wrote alongside pH๏τos and clips of him sitting courtside with his wife Brittany, who recently gave birth to their third child.

During the game, a fan holed a putt from the other end of the court and then ran over to Mahomes. The Chiefs legend leapt into the air to shoulder bump the student during the wild celebrations.

Mahomes spent his college years in Lubbock and he was back there on Monday night to see the No 10 Red Raiders face the No 4 ranked Cougars.

At the game, he gave fans another glimpse of his bold new haircut, having shed his mullet in the wake of the Super Bowl.

The new style was first seen in pictures exclusively revealed by DailyMail.com last week and, on Saturday, Mahomes showed off his new look at his daughter Sterling’s fourth birthday party.
