Dave Portnoy blames Patrick Mahomes for getting dad’s fight with John Rocker canceled

The fight between Patrick Mahomes Sr. and John Rocker is off.

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy broke the news that the ex-MLB stars wouldn’t be going mano-a-mano at “Rough ‘N Rowdy” after Mahomes’ son, Patrick, and his wife, Brittany, got wind of things.

“No, this fight is canceled,” Portnoy said on the “Unnamed Show” on Friday. “Mahomes’ agent — the football player — and Brittany, from what I am told, intervened and said, ‘There’s no way this fight happens; we’re going to cut this guy off if he does it.”

The fight, originally slated for Barstool Sports’ “Rough ‘N Rowdy” boxing show on Apr. 19, gained notoriety when Mahomes Sr., 54, and Rocker, 50, got into a tiff in New Orleans during Super Bowl 2025 week.

In court, Mahomes Sr. told officials that the scuffle was an attempt to build momentum for the bout.

Other than getting the combatants to sign on for the fight, Portnoy denied having anything to do with it.

“They came to us to do this,” he said. “How would we ever come up with this concept, ‘Oh, let’s put up John Rocker versus Pat Mahomes Sr.’? Who would ever think of that? They came to us, said they hated each other wanted to fight.”

Portnoy was thrilled to have an opportunity to troll Mahomes Jr. after learning of the Chiefs quarterback’s disdain for his outlet.

“I know Patty Mahomes the Super Bowl guy, the guy who just got his doors blown off said he hated Barstool,” Portnoy said, annoucing the fight on Feb. 12. “Well, now your dad’s fighting in our company against John Rocker. I’ll save a seat, free of charge. Patty Mahomes and crew, no bad blood, we can make up and watch your dad fight. That’s an open invite. You said you don’t like us, I get your dad to fight Rough N’ Rowdy.”

The fight is now off, leaving the Mahomes clan to deal with some seeming family issues to sort out –Mahomes Sr. has been a headache for the Chiefs superstar quarterback, as his father has had three DUI’s and served jail time in October.
