With a total of 8,000 warriors, it is notable that none of them are exactly the same as the other. Every detail, from facial expression to body position, was carefully sculpted, demonstrating the extraordinary artistic skill of the artisans of the time. After the tomb’s completion in 210-209 BC, however, the story of these warriors took a dark turn.

Looted for weapons and set on fire, the tomb collapsed, crushing the sculptures. Today, all of the Terracotta Warriors on display have been meticulously restored, but the initial tragedy highlights the vulnerability of these unique works of art.
