Hailee Steinfeld and Josh Allen are cherishing the things they’ve kept private when it comes to their relationship.
During an interview for the February cover of “WhoWhatWear,” the “Sinners” actress explained how the couple protected their relationship from the public eye — and she revealed new details about the Bills quarterback’s proposal, which took place in Malibu last November.
“When you realize that so much is already out there in every other aspect of your life, you really learn to cherish the little that isn’t,” Steinfeld, 28, said of keeping their relationship mostly out of the spotlight. “It just makes things extra special, and it’s just for you.”
Steinfeld and Allen, who were first pH๏τographed together in Manhattan in May 2023, had been dating for roughly two years when he proposed under an arch of pink and red roses next to a body of water.
She said she didn’t see it coming.
“Oh my God, no! You talk to your girlfriends about that, right, where you’re like, ‘I just don’t want to know,’” Steinfeld said.
The multi-platinum singer added that she was happy she “looked good” for what she thought was a normal date night with Allen.
Steinfeld wore a printed silk dress by Etro that was “in my closet forever” and was something she randomly selected for the occasion.
“I’m so grateful that he did it the way he did so that I looked good, and we have these pH๏τos that we’ll have and cherish for the rest of our lives that I’m not looking at being like, ‘What was I wearing?’” she said, adding that she “blacked out” in the moment.
“We were in Malibu, which is my happy place, and it was magical. That’s the word,” she recalled.
“I thought we were going on a little date night and it just so happened to be that the dress matched the flowers in this beautiful set up. I want to make a wallpaper out of this pH๏τo and put it in my room.”
Steinfeld explained in a Q&A video with “WhoWhatWear” that she “blacked out” during Allen’s proposal.
“I don’t think I can pinpoint it,” she said of the moment she knew she was getting engaged. “I blacked out completely. I feel like I saw anything around me for several hours. I don’t remember anything he said. I’m still in shock. I’m still recovering.
“… But I am so blessed and so lucky I get to marry the man of my dreams and he planned the most perfect proposal I could have ever ever dreamt.”
Steinfeld conducted the interview via a Zoom call while sitting on a couch in her “creative den” in the Buffalo, N.Y., home she shares with Allen.
