Travis Kelce’s brutal Super Bowl 2025 performance summed up by viral plays

Travis Kelce’s Super Bowl 2025 game tape wasn’t the prettiest.

The star Chiefs тιԍнт end finished with just four catches for 39 yards during Kansas City’s 40-22 blowout loss to the Eagles, but the eye test reveals an even uglier performance.

In the middle of the second quarter, with the Chiefs already down 10-0, Kelce matched up across from star pᴀss rusher Josh Sweat.

Kelce, not known for his blocking prowess, allowed Sweat to blow right past him and sack quarterback Patrick Mahomes on back-to-back plays, effectively ending Kansas City’s chance of cutting the deficit on the drive.

And it wasn’t just Kelce’s blocking that seemed low-effort.

In the third quarter, with the Chiefs down 27-0, Mahomes came under pressure on second-and-4, scrambling out of the pocket while looking for an open man downfield.

Instead of trying to get open, Kelce appeared to give up on the play, standing still near midfield as Mahomes crossed the line of scrimmage in pursuit of a first down.

Mahomes would eventually get hit by Oren Burks – who was standing next to the immobile Kelce during the play – and fumble, although would later be called back for a holding on the Chiefs.

It’s possible Kelce saw the flag and knew the play was coming back.

There has been much talk on if Kelce, 35, will retire this offseason after 12 seasons in the NFL.

During the latest “New Heights” podcast episode with his brother, Jason, the future Hall of Famer spoke of the “wear and tear” his body suffers on the football field but didn’t commit one way or another on a retirement decision.

“I’m going to take some time to figure it out,” he said. “I think I owe it to my teammates that if I do come back, it’s going to be something that — it’s a wholehearted decision.

Kelce had career lows of 823 yards and three touchdowns this season.
