Colin Cowherd brutally rips Patrick Mahomes over ‘the ugliest Super Bowl performance of our lives’

Patrick Mahomes produced ‘the ugliest Super Bowl performance of our lives’ on Sunday night, Colin Cowherd has brutally claimed after the Chiefs quarterback’s nightmare in New Orleans.

Kansas City came up short in its bid to win an unprecedented third straight Super Bowl at the weekend, with the Philadelphia Eagles instead storming to a dominant 40-22 victory over the former champions at Caesars Superdome.

It proved a disastrous night for Mahomes, who threw two costly interceptions – including a pick six – while taking six sacks after being overwhelmed by the Eagles defense.

In the first half of the game, the Chiefs had just 23 yards of offense and went in at the break trailing 24-0, before eventually falling 34-0 behind.

And despite the fact he eventually finished with 257 yards and three touchdowns, Cowherd believes Mahomes’ Super Bowl showing was the worst in recent memory.

The Fox Sports host said when discussing comparisons between the Kansas City star and Tom Brady: ‘Mahomes this season, you started really hearing about it in September and October, “If he wins a third, I think we have a new GOAT.”

‘Mahomes finished the regular season as the 16th-highest pᴀsser rating and just turned in the ugliest Super Bowl performance arguably of our lives.’

Many had suggested that Mahomes would rival Brady in the GOAT debate if he inspired the Chiefs to a third straight Super Bowl, something the New England Patriots icon failed to achieve in his own legendary career.

‘So just to give you a sense of the gap between Brady and everybody else,’ Cowherd continued. ‘If you cut Tom Brady’s career in half and just take the final 12 years; he has four Super Bowls, an MVP, and 54,000 pᴀssing yards – which is more than John Elway.

‘He has 20 playoff wins just in the second half of his career, which is the most playoff wins of any quarterback of all time. Just think about that.

‘Old Brady by the way did face Patrick Mahomes. Blew him out in the Super Bowl and beat him in overtime at Arrowhead in the AFC Championship.’

The sportscaster then added: ‘In a game of inches, Brady is several hundred yards from number two. From Joe Montana, from (John) Elway, from Peyton Manning, and from Patrick Mahomes.

‘”But Colin, if he would have won Sunday.” It’s not just that he lost. It’s just for the second time in a Super Bowl, he was awful.

‘Didn’t adjust, overwhelmed, looked shook. It’s not just losing, whatever that was leaves a mark.’

Mahomes was quick to shoulder the blame after the defeat on Sunday, writing to Chiefs fans in a post on X: ‘I let y’all down today. I’ll always continue to work and try and learn and be better for it.’

He also added in his postgame press conference: ‘I can’t turn the ball over when it’s not going our way. I have to learn from that and get better from that.

‘Anytime you lose the Super Bowl, it’s the worst feeling. It’ll stick with you for the rest of your career. It hurt more than the wins feel good. It’s going to hurt for a while, but how can you respond to it.’
