Jalen Hurts’ mom had ‘tense’ confrontation with Nick Wright at Super Bowl party

Nick Wright said he had to answer to Jalen Hurts’ mom, Pamela, after an unexpected run-in at Super Bowl 2025.

During Monday’s installment of “First Things First” on FS1, Wright recalled having a “tense” encounter with the Eagles quarterback’s mom, whom he said scolded him for talking “so bad” about her son on television.

Wright explained that Pamela confronted him while at a Klutch Sports party the night before the Eagles dominated the Chiefs 40-22 and Hurts was named Super Bowl MVP in New Orleans.

“I’m having a good time, I don’t work the next day, [having] a few drinks as most people are and a woman walks up to me and says ‘I need to ask you one question. Why do you talk so bad about Jalen Hurts?’” Wright — an unabashed Chiefs fan — told his co-hosts Chris Broussard and Kevin Wildes.

“I was like, “Well I don’t think I talk bad’… and she was not budging a bit.

“She’s like, ‘No, no, you do.’ And I said , well let me tell you the good things I said about him. Once this goes on for 5, 6, 7 minutes. I had a moment of clarity and I said, ‘ma’am, can I ask you one question real quick?’ I said ‘are you Jalen Hurts’ mother?

“She said, ‘Yes I am.’ And it went on for another 15 minutes, where it was a very cordial but intense mother defending her child against someone who she thinks has been unfair to him. She ended it with this, ‘I just want to know what you’re going to say when he wins [on Sunday].’”

Wright went on to say that he’d have to wait and see how Hurts performed, but he promised to be fair in his analysis.

“So to Mrs. Hurts and to anyone else, he was phenomenal,” Wright said. “The Chiefs did do the thing that I think that anyone who was confident the chiefs would in thought — stop [Eagles running back] Saquon [Barkley] and you win. That’s the one thing they did effectively, game play-wise and it didn’t work because Jalen made every play that was asked about him.

“.. He is as impressive as a leader as just about anyone in the sport and the team he leads just had in my opinion a top five all-time Super Bowl performance by a team as far as what they did on both sides of the ball… I think it is unfair to say that [Bengals’] Joe [Burrow], [Ravens’] Lamar [Jackson] or [Bills’] Josh [Allen] are just definitively clearly in a different class than Jalen, I think he’s gotta be in that top five.”
