Kansas City Chiefs star deletes post saying he won’t retire at 28 after Super Bowl disaster

Kansas City Chiefs star deletes post saying he won't retire at 28 after Super Bowl disaster

In the aftermath of a crushing defeat in Super Bowl LIX, a star on the Kansas City Chiefs is dismissing rumors that he might be calling it a career.

With impending free agency on the horizon for him, a wide receiver the Chiefs acquired midway through the 2024 season is committing to stay in the league.

After a tweet from a fake Adam Schefter account suggested that he might be on the verge of retirement, pᴀss catcher DeAndre Hopkins posted a now-deleted tweet saying that he wasn’t going to stop playing.

He tweeted, ‘Don’t know what you heard but I’m not done yet’ before eventually taking the post down.

The fake Schefter account tweeted out a rumor that Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters the receiver informed the team of his intention to retire.

But for now, it appears that Hopkins will be exploring his options in free agency – which he’s about to experience for the first time in his career.

Hopkins was traded to the Chiefs from the Tennessee тιтans for a conditional fifth-round pick back in October.

In ten games played this season, Hopkins caught 41 pᴀsses for 437 yards and four touchdowns.

During the Super Bowl, he caught two pᴀsses for 18 yards and a touchdown – also catching a two-point conversion attempt.

Hopkins is the highest paid of the Chiefs’ 20 players who will become unrestricted free agents next month.

In addition to Hopkins, wide receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster, Mecole Hardman, Justin Watson, and Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown are set to see their contracts expire.

Other than receivers, the Chiefs need to sign contracts for multiple key defensive players – including safety Justin Reid, defensive end Charles Omenihu, outside linebacker Josh Uche, and middle linebacker Nick Bolton.
