‘Furious’ Buccaneers get revenge on Jaguars for Liam Coen’s controversial exit

There is some bad blood over coach Liam Coen’s departure from Tampa Bay.

The Buccaneers have blocked multiple ᴀssistants from interviewing with the Jaguars for jobs, according to multiple reports.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the Jaguars attempted to interview Tampa Bay offensive line coach Kevin Carberry for a similar role in Jacksonville but were blocked.

The same can be said for ᴀssistant offensive line coach Brian Picucci.

Interviews for ᴀssistants are usually accepted so long as they are interviewing for a promotion.

The Tampa Bay Times reported that general manager Jason Licht is “furious” with Coen and that head coach Todd Bowles “might be as well.”

“And I want Jason to be good with it,” Coen said of any friction. “I love Jason. Those guys gave me an opp! I’ll never forget that. But time heals. Time heals. We’ll be all right.”

It appears a week isn’t enough time.

Coen went back and forth between the two Florida-based NFL teams last week.

He first pulled himself out of consideration for the Jaguars job and agreed to return as Tampa Bay’s offensive coordinator with a hefty raise that reportedly would have made him the highest-paid coordinator in the sport.

Then, after the Jaguars fired GM Trent Baalke, Coen secretly met with owner Shad Khan last Thursday and agreed to become the head coach in Jacksonville.

The Buccaneers were reportedly unable to reach Coen all day Thursday.

Jacksonville has a lot of work to do to build out a coaching staff, although it recently hired Packers ᴀssistant Anthony Campanile as their defensive coordinator.

The Jaguars went 4-13 in 2024, while the Buccaneers went 10-7 and won the NFC South.
