New Orleans Saints make major breakthrough in search for their new head coach

With only one head coaching vacancy remaining in the NFL, the New Orleans Saints are running out of time to find the right candidate for their top job.

According to multiple reports, their top target is Kellen Moore – currently the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reporting that he is meeting with the Saints again before the Super Bowl, where the Eagles are set to take on the Kansas City Chiefs.

However, despite being the favorite, there may be one speedbump that prevents a deal from actually happening.

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic (via her Scoop City podcast), the lack of clarity for the Saints quarterback room could be a big detractor for Moore.

The Saints played Derek Carr, Spencer Rattler, and Jake Haener at QB last season due to various injuries and setbacks.

But Moore is believed to be interested regardless as the Saints prepare for a heavy re-build

But despite this uncertainty, Russini added that there’s belief Moore has ‘come around’ on the idea of helming New Orleans since the team knows it has to re-build.

Other reports indicate that the Saints are essentially down to two candidates: Moore and New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.

Moore is in charge of one of the best rushing units in the league – helmed by Saquon Barkley. He could find a similar situation in New Orleans with star back Alvin Kamara.

But success may take some time. The Saints have struggled since the retirement of the franchise’s greatest ever player – Drew Brees.

New Orleans has missed the playoffs for the past four seasons and has not made an NFC Championship game since 2018.
