Chiefs star Justin Reid reveals why he must win the Super Bowl ‘to break even’

Kansas City Chiefs safety Justin Reid has joked that he needs to win the Super Bowl just to make back the money he spent on 30 tickets for the New Orleans showpiece.

The Prairieville, Louisiana native is taking full advantage of playing the NFL’s biggest game in his home state, with the Chiefs taking on the Philadelphia Eagles at the Superdome next week.

Tickets for the game in New Orleans are being sold for eye-watering prices as Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Reid and Co chase a historic ‘three-peat’.

On Thursday, the seventh-year veteran revealed that he has an extra incentive to beat the Eagles: to recoup the money he splashed out on friends and family.

‘Those ticket prices are running up, man,’ he said. ‘Like, I got 30 of them.’

‘We’re excited to play, and we’re chasing glory, but we gotta win just for me to break even,’ Reid added with a laugh.

The average ticket price for the game on February 9 is $8,076. The cheapest ticket for Caesars Superdome is $3,564 on VividSeats at the time of writing.

Each player is allocated two tickets for the game. If they want more they, too, have to pay.

According to Yahoo Sports, everyone on the winning team will receive $171,000. Meanwhile, the losing side will receive $96,000 each.

Reid started his career in Houston, spending four seasons with the Texans. In 2022, he signed a three-year contract worth $31.5million to join the Chiefs.

The decision has paid off. Next week, the safety could win his third ring and be part of the first NFL team to win three successive Super Bowls.

Across 16 appearances this season, Reid tallied 61 solo and 26 ᴀssisted tackles for the reigning champions.

He also amᴀssed nine solo and three ᴀssisted tackles during Kansas City’s wins over Houston and Buffalo in the postseason.
