Kliff Kingsbury makes his 2025 decision amid head coaching speculation

Kliff Kingsbury is staying in the nation’s capital.

The Commanders offensive coordinator has decided against pursuing another NFL head coaching job for this coming season, according to ESPN.

Kingsbury, whose team was eliminated by the Eagles in Sunday’s NFC Championship game, was seen as a possible candidate for the Saints head coaching vacancy — the only such open job left on the market.

The Saints also had requested interviews with Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who accepted the Jets’ head coaching position, and Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, who opted to stay in Buffalo.

The franchise is now reportedly considering Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver and Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore for the job.

The Bears and Cowboys had also expressed interest in Kingsbury before going a different route with their head coaching decisions.

Kingsbury came to Washington after spending four seasons as the Cardinals’ head coach, going 28-37-1 in the regular season with zero playoff wins before getting fired after the 2022 season.

The Commanders enjoyed a renaissance season under head coach Dan Quinn and Kingsbury this year, going 12-5 and winning their first postseason game since 2005.

In Kingsbury’s offense, No. 2 draft pick Jayden Daniels enjoyed one of the best rookie seasons for a quarterback in NFL history.

Earlier this month, Kingsbury said he would like to be a head coach again “at some point,” but didn’t appear keen on that happening next season.

“We’ll see how everything plays out, but I’m very happy here,” Kingsbury said of Washington.

“This has been an awesome, awesome place and has really helped me kind of rekindle my love for the sport.”
