Saquon Barkley has viral reaction to Eagles unsung hero Will Shipley’s first career TD

It’s been the Saquon Barkley Show in Philadelphia, but on the backend of a blowout win in the NFC Championship game, it was his third-stringer that stole the show.

Will Shipley scampered past the Commanders’ defense on Sunday en route to a 57-yard dash that nearly ended in the end zone before a defender caught him from behind.

With the ball at the 2-yard line, Shipley waltzed into the end zone for a touchdown for the final points of the Eagles’ 55-23 win while Barkley ran onto the field to celebrate.

Barkley was one of the first players to congratulate Shipley on his first career touchdown as the Eagles ran it down the Commanders’ throats, scoring seven rushing touchdowns.

Barkley dominated the game with 118 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns, while quarterback Jalen Hurts had three rushing scores of his own.

“I want to give a shoutout to Will Shipley,” Barkley said after the win. “He came in, finished it strong. We talk in the running back room about making plays. … Will stepped up big for us.”

Shipley was a bit of a star in the fourth quarter after it became clear that the Commanders were no match for the Eagles.

Fox broadcaster Tom Brady hilariously commentated his 57-yard run, pointing out that Shipley was looking back at the defense to see if anyone would be catching him.

“He’s looking back like, ‘Is anyone going to catch me? Oh god, my legs are getting tired. Let me look at the scoreboard, oh there’s people coming from behind. Let me cover up, oh god I’m tired,’” Brady said while laughing on the broadcast.

Brady continued by saying it was an “awesome” moment to see Shipley get some shine in the NFC тιтle game.

Shipley ended the game with four carries for 77 yards and his first career touchdown, after previously being given 10 carries for 32 yards as the Eagles’ backup unit defeated the Giants in Week 18.

It’s safe to say, though, that Shipley won’t get much run at all in Super Bowl 2025, where the Eagles will again battle the Chiefs for the second time in three years.
