Next stop, Kansas City! Bills fans wave Josh Allen and Co off at airport as team head for Arrowhead showdown

The Buffalo Bills are airborne and off to Kansas City ahead of their Sunday evening AFC Championship game matchup against the Chiefs.

PH๏τos of the team boarding the plane at Buffalo Niagara International Airport were posted on the Bills’ social media accounts.

Quarterback Josh Allen, rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman, and safety Damar Hamlin were among the players pH๏τographed before the aircraft took off.

In the picture of Hamlin, it appears that a group of Bills fans had gathered at the fence outside the airport to cheer the team on – giving them a proper goodbye before they fly off to Missouri.

The Bills are hoping to finally break their playoff duck against this Chiefs team that has shut them out from reaching their first Super Bowl in 31 seasons.

Over the past few years, this matchup has been one of the most commonly played playoff games in the NFL.

Unfortunately for the Bills and their fans, they have not yet beaten this incarnation of the Chiefs in the playoffs.

It’s almost a reversal of the fortunes of these two teams from their rivalry in the 1990s.

In the 1991 season, the Bills beat Kansas City in the Divisional round en-route to their second straight Super Bowl appearance.

Two seasons later, the Chiefs looked for some revenge in the AFC Championship game – but fell again as Buffalo made its fourth straight Super Bowl.

Unlike the Chiefs of the 2020s, the Bills never won a Super Bowl тιтle – despite reaching the Big Game four straight seasons.

In this decade, these two teams have met in the playoffs three times already. Sunday will be the fourth time in five seasons they’ve played each other.

Each time, Buffalo has lost. Barring the 2020 AFC Championship game, all of those losses have been by one score.

All those defeats have common threads: each time, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has out-performed Allen. Each time, Travis Kelce has caught a touchdown pᴀss and dominated Buffalo’s secondary. Each time, the Bills have turned the ball over at least once.

Buffalo will be without starting safety Taylor Rapp this weekend after he sustained a hip injury against the Baltimore Ravens. Fellow defensive secondary starter Christian Benford is questionable.

As for the Chiefs, the only addition to their injury report this week was backup wide receiver Mecole Hardman.

Kansas City is looking to make their third straight Super Bowl – something only the Miami Dolphins (1971-1973), Bills (1990-1993), and New England Patriots (2016-2018) have done.
