Kelly Stafford revealed that a nagging rib injury caused her husband, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, to come home miserable from practice.
Matthew cracked four ribs in Week 15 against the San Francisco 49ers but decided to play through the injury.
In the latest episode of her Timeout podcast, Kelly shared how not telling the team of his situation affected the quarterback.
‘He cracked four ribs,’ Kelly revealed. ‘But just didn’t really let anyone in to know really much about it. [He] continued his everyday process like nothing was wrong, would come home and be miserable.’
Matthew aggravated the injury in the Rams’ divisional playoff defeat the the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday and acknowledged it after the game.
The quarterback admitted he had been dealing with the pain ‘to a varying degree for some time.’ Matthew also added he ‘was able to kind of calm it down’ and ‘didn’t feel like it was much of a factor’ against Philadelphia.

Rams coach Sean McVay said Stafford hut his rib early against the Eagles, referring to him as ‘dinged up.’
‘But he is a warrior. He’s so tough,’ said McVay. ‘He represents so many things that are right about what this team became, especially for a city that’s hurting and going through some different stuff [the wildfires that struck Los Angeles this month].
‘I think he epitomizes a lot of the stuff that’s right at him in terms of toughness, resilience, ability to overcome adversity. He’s a total freaking stud. And I thought he was outstanding tonight with the opportunities that he was given. … I’m sure damn proud of Matthew Stafford.’
Stafford was never added to the injury report following Week 15 despite missing practice due to a coach’s decision after clinching their divisional тιтle.
He completed 340 of 517 attempts for 3,762 yards and 20 touchdowns as the Rams finished with a 10-7 record.
