Exclusive | Bill Parcells is all-in on Jets’ Aaron Glenn hire

Bill Parcells, who’s been a coach, a mentor and an adviser for Aaron Glenn dating back to their Jets days together in the 90s, told The Post on Wednesday that he’d spoken to Glenn in this hiring process right up until Tuesday night after he’d interviewed with the Jets for their head coach job.

“I spoke to him yesterday,’’ Parcells said. “Today’s like trying to get a hold of Trump.’’

Today, Glenn, who played cornerback under Parcells with the Jets from 1997-99 and then with the Cowboys in 2005 and 2006, is the Jets new head coach.

 And Parcells is thrilled.

“I have high regard for him,’’ Parcells said. “I’m telling you now, he’s a feisty, compeтιтive guy. Get ready. He doesn’t (mess) around. He’s a serious guy. He’s serious about this. He loves football. That always impressed me. He’s gonna do a good job. You watch.

“I hope he can get some good people around him,’’ Parcells went on. “That’s going to be the thing. I don’t know who’s going to bring around him. But trust me, I know he’s researched it, and not going to start from scratch here.’’

One thing Parcells doesn’t buy into is the argument that Glenn’s lack of experience as a head coach will hurt him with the Jets, that the Jets needed someone with head coaching experience.

“I have a very strong take on that,’’ Parcells said. “This guy has worked his ᴀss off preparing to be a coach. There are not many players that, when their career’s over, are going to start at a lower-level scouting job to try to learn about being in pro football and personnel acquisition. And he did all that. He put the hard work in, and he served his apprenticeship.’’

No one knows what a different and difficult animal the Jets are to tame better than Parcells, who defined the buzz phrase “changed the culture’’ when he took over the team in 1997 after the two calamitous Rich Koтιтe years of 1995-96 during which the team went 4-28.

Can Glenn handle that?

“He’ll be all right,’’ Parcells predicted. “Listen now, I’m gonna tell you this: Until you’re a head coach, you don’t know for sure how it is. He’ll pick it up quick.

“He’s heard it for a long time from multiple people, and I just wish him luck. I’m excited. I really am.’’
