Paley Museum adding Super Bowl exhibit with New York flare

The Paley Museum is bringing the feel of the Big Game to Manhattan later this month.

The museum is rolling out a pair of new exhibits based around the Super Bowl, featuring iconic items from some of the Big Game’s biggest moments and celebrating some of the iconic names to play in the Super Bowl.

“The Road to the Big Game: New Orleans” and “Celebrating the Black Heroes of Football’s Biggest Game” exhibits will open at the Paley Museum on Jan. 24 and run through March 30 with special events sprinkled throughout its run.

“Every year the Super Bowl captivates audiences worldwide. From the moment the teams take the field, to the excitement of the opening kickoff, to that final glorious moment when the victorious team raises the coveted Vince Lombardi trophy – there is just nothing else like it,” The Paley Center for Media president and CEO Maureen J. Reidy said.

“We are thrilled to present these two must-see exhibits that perfectly capture the magic of the Big Game and we thank the National Football League, the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and Citi for their tremendous support of these exhibits.”

The Road to the Big Game will feature the Vince Lombardi Trophy, all 58 team rings from each championship-winning team, and rare artifacts on display including game balls and uniforms from past Super Bowl games on loan from the Pro Football Hall of Fame, over 150 pH๏τos of iconic, thrilling Super Bowl moments Paul Martinka

Among the items that will be on display include the Vince Lombardi Trophy and 58 rings from each of the Super Bowl-winning teams over the years.

There will also be a New York flare to the exhibit with memorabilia from the Jets and Giants championship teams, including a Jets Super Bowl III ring, a Joe Namath signed Super Bowl III ticket and helmet worn by Jets linebacker Larry Grantham.

Giants fans will be able to view the Lombardi Trophy on loan from the Giants from Feb. 1-14, along with a game-used football from Super Bowl XLII in 2008 and a pylon that had been used in Super Bowl XLVI in 2012.

The “Celebrating the Black Heroes of Football’s Biggest Game” exhibit will showcase 20 black players “named Super Bowl MVPs and several other pioneering Big Game athletes, coaches, and performers, documenting how their Super success has broken down barriers and demonstrated excellence at the highest level,” according to an announcement from the Paley Museum.

The Paley Museum will hold a pair of special events in addition to the exhibits in the lead-up to Super Bowl 2025 taking place in New Orleans on Feb. 9.

The West 52nd street museum will host a special screening of the original Super Bowl I broadcast for its members on Feb. 1 and the following day a Maden NFL 25 video game tournament will take place.

This year will mark the second consecutive year that the Paley Museum has done a special exhibit around the Super Bowl in the lead up to the Big Game.

Last year’s exhibit – “Beyond the Big Game – featured a Super Bowl 1 game used ball, Nick Foles’ helmet from Super Bowl LII in 2017 and Kurt Warner’s jersey from Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000 among other memorabilia from past Super Bowls.
