Branson Perry: The Young Man Who Vanished from His Own Backyard in Five Minutes – No Forced Entry, No Struggle, and No Answers After 25 Years

On the afternoon of April 11, 2001, 20-year-old Branson Kayne Perry stepped out of his father’s house on West Oak Street in Skidmore, Missouri, to return a pair of jumper cables to a nearby shed. He was expected back within minutes. He never returned.

Branson was cleaning the home for his father Bob’s return from the hospital. His friend Jena Crawford was inside, while two mechanics worked on Bob’s car just outside. Three witnesses were within eyesight of the 30-foot path to the shed. Yet no one saw Branson again. He left behind his wallet, personal belongings, his dog, and his van—no signs of a struggle, no forced entry, and the doors to the house remained open with the radio playing.

The jumper cables were missing when police first checked the shed but turned up inside the door two weeks later. Branson was reported missing six days later. Extensive searches yielded nothing. The small town of Skidmore, already infamous for its dark secrets, offered few leads.

Foul play is strongly suspected. Branson had recently been drugged and Sєxually ᴀssaulted at a neighbor’s house, an incident he confided in his father. Drug activity, including methamphetamine, has been cited in later tips. In 2024–2025, authorities questioned two individuals who pointed to a possible burial site near Quitman, yet no remains have been recovered.

Branson’s father died in 2004 and his mother searched until her pᴀssing. The case remains active with closed records and a suspected perpetrator still at large. Twenty-five years later, the image of a young man walking 30 feet into his own backyard—and simply disappearing—continues to haunt investigators and the community. Branson Perry is still missing.
