AJ Brown was spotted by Fox’s cameras reading a book on the sidelines in between game-action during Sunday’s Wild Card win over the Green Bay Packers, leaving fans baffled by his decision.
Brown did not have a great game by any standards, with only one catch for 10 yards.
Yet, it was not a product of him being frustrated that led him to start reading while the Eagles’ defense was on the field.
Brown said he brings the book ‘Inner Excellence’ by Jim Murphy to every game. After the win, the wide receiver showed his copy of the novel, with pᴀssages highlighted and underlined.
The book had also seen plenty of wear and tear, proving Brown’s story to be true.
‘It gives me a sense of peace,’ Brown said of reading the book during games. ‘That’s a book I bring every single game.’

Brown may have read more pages of the book than he had receiving yards on Sunday. He’ll take his personal production with a postseason win during any game.

One such pᴀssage Brown has highlighted in Murphy’s book talks about where someone’s focus should be.
‘We’re so hard on ourselves, amplifying all our failures and regrets, that we neglect to see what’s still possible – a life of freedom, field with deep contentment, joy and confidence, independent of circumstances. We’re all human, with the same deep desires and concerns.’
The Eagles do not know their opponent for the Divisional round yet. It will be a home game as a result of their victory over the Packers.
No matter what, ‘Inner Excellence’ will be making its return to the sidelines of Lincoln Financial Field.
Many Eagles fans on social media said after the game they had purchased the book themselves.
