Raiders and Tom Brady’s stance on hiring Deion Sanders revealed amid Colorado coach’s ‘strong interest’

Raiders and Tom Brady's stance on hiring Deion Sanders revealed amid Colorado coach's 'strong interest'

While Deion Sanders may be interested in the coaching vacancy in Las Vegas, it appears the Raiders do not reciprocate the sentiment.

The Colorado head coach is said to have ‘very strong interest’ in the position after the Raiders wielded the axe earlier this week, dismissing both Antonio Pierce and general manager Tom Telesco.

However, despite Sanders opening the door to a potential NFL move, the Raiders are reportedly not biting.

Mark Davis and co. have ‘zero interest’ in hiring the 57-year-old, according to The Athletic, amid the franchise’s hunt for yet another new head coach.

The Raiders fired Pierce Tuesday after the embattled franchise’s 4-13 finish to the season saw them head into the offseason without playoff football for yet another year.

Days later, ᴀssociates of Sanders’ with connections to the league were reported to have reached out to the team to inform them of his interest, according to  the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

But the Raiders ownership, in particular minority owner Tom Brady, are reportedly eyeing up other candidates.

The Raiders have already interviewed Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, and Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. They have set interviews with former Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll and ex-New York Jets coach Robert Saleh next week.

And Brady, who is part of the interview process, is said to be targeting Johnson as his favorite for the role.

Brady is personally involved in recruiting the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator with the seven-time Super Bowl winner ‘enamored’ by him, according to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport.

Brady, a minority owner for the Raiders, has also spent time with Johnson’s agent, Rapoport said.

Johnson has interest from multiple teams across the NFL – on Saturday, he interviewed with the Chicago Bears for their vacant head coach position.

Las Vegas is one of six NFL teams who have a head coaching vacancy after the team made the decision to fire Pierce.

By that point of the Draft, it’s expected that Sanders’ son Shedeur Sanders will have already been drafted. Most mocks project that he will be taken within the first three picks – to either the Tennessee тιтans, Cleveland Browns, or the New York Giants.

The Raiders have the sixth pick in the 2025 Draft after ending the current season with a miserable 4-13 record.

They also need to hire a new General Manager, with Telesco following Pierce out through the exit door earlier this week.
