Fans rip ‘vile and barbaric’ Panthers rookie Xavier Legette after posting squirrel-hunting video

Social media users were disgusted by a video of Carolina Panthers rookie Xavier Legette hunting, skinning, and cooking a squirrel.

On Friday, a video of the wide receiver went viral as he showed a partially skinned squirrel in hand saying, ‘we done bust the squirrel out the tree and opened him up. Take the clothes off him.’

The video then cut to a clip of the animal cut up and placed on top of a grill.

As over 2.9 million users viewed the 20-second video, fans took to the comment section to express their – mostly nauseated – reactions.

‘This is vile and barbaric. This is also why I’m a vegan,’ one user wrote.

‘Wtf? He should be suspended,’ another suggested.

A third user wrote that Legette ‘needs to be arrested for animal abuse.’

‘Someone let him know he can hire a private chef and never have to do this again,’ cried a fourth.

While plenty disagreed with Legette’s hunting ways, others insisted that there was no harm in what he did.

‘All I know is when s*** hits the fan and I have to hunt for food to survive, I’d want to be with this dude,’ one fan responded.

‘He hunts and fends for himself. He’s not hitting women and having 27 baby mommas. Calm down,’ another chimed in, referring to Tyreek Hill.

His love for bizarre meats is no surprise as Legette previously brought a container of raccoon meat to the Panthers locker room to share with teammates and media members – at least those bold enough to try.

Over Thanksgiving, Legette appeared on the St. Brown Podcast with Amon-Ra and Equanimeous St. Brown and gave his H๏τtest food takes.

‘I don’t eat the bell peppers and all that extra stuff like that … That stuff is too exotic,’ Legette told reporters on Thursday. ‘The [raccoon] is regular to me. I’ve been eating that since I came out.’

The Panthers drafted the South Carolina native with the 32nd pick in 2024. Legette wrapped up his first season in the NFL with 49 receptions for 497 yards and four touchdowns.
