Texas’ Quinn Ewers expects to enter NFL draft in major 2025 shakeup

Quinn Ewers’ collegiate future might not include much more.

It appears he has his eyes set on the NFL.

In an interview aired on “College GameDay” before the Texas-Ohio State College Football Playoff semifinal, the Longhorns’ star quarterback told ESPN’s Pete Thamel point blank that he does not expect to be playing college football next season.

“No, I don’t,” Ewers said when asked if he sees himself on an NCAA gridiron next season before responding “yes” that he believes he will be playing in the NFL next season.

ESPN then reported that sources close to Ewers said there is an “overwhelming likelihood” that the signal-caller declares for the draft.

While far from definitive, it is the closest to an answer Ewers has given about his thoughts for 2025, as speculation has run rampant about his football future.

At the end of December, On3 reported one unnamed school made a $6 million pitch to lure Ewers to play for that team and leave Texas.

Ewers was asked on Wednesday about the rumors about his future, and he avoided giving a straight answer.

“I mean, right now, I’m just, I’m just not worried about all that stuff,” Ewers told reporters on Wednesday, according to USA Today. “I mean, people can say all they want to say, but, you know, I’m just focused on Friday at this point in time.”

He was then asked if a result in either the CFP semis or potential final would factor into a decision for next season.

“That’s a great question,” he said before adding that his eyes were on the game against the Buckeyes.

Ewers, a transfer from Ohio State, had a breakout 2023 for Texas in which he threw for 3,479 yards (69 percent completion rate) and 22 touchdowns against six interceptions.

The 2024 season was more up-and-down, though, with a few injuries mixed in.

Ewers threw for fewer yards (3,189) on a lower completion rate (66.5 percent) but did lead the SEC with 29 touchdowns with Texas one win away from a national тιтle appearance.

If Ewers does in fact declare for the draft, it should be interesting to see where he lands.

Fellow SEC quarterbacks Jalen Milroe and Jaxson Dart have already declared, and expected top picks Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are likely to follow suit in the coming days.

Draft analyst Todd McShay, on his podcast for The Ringer, recently said experts told him that Ewers should look to transfer instead of going pro.

“I’ve had multiple solicited and unsolicited conversations with folks in the league about Quinn Ewers,” McShay said last month. “Every single person I’ve talked to in the league, every evaluator part of the NFL Draft process believes Quinn Ewers should grad transfer.”
