Eagle-eyed NFL fans spot the moment Tyreek Hill quit on Dolphins against the Jets

NFL fans paying close attention to Sunday’s Miami Dolphins’ loss to the New York Jets believe they have pinpointed the exact moment Tyreek Hill quit on his team.

Hill appeared to take himself out of the game during the third quarter at MetLife Stadium, not returning for the final 17 minutes of his season.

The Dolphins’ wide receiver has been under a microscope since his postgame comments essentially stating he wanted to play next season elsewhere, as this season for Miami was his first as a player on a team that did not qualify for the postseason.

Now, the impetus of Sunday’s chaos appears to have been found.

As Miami is on offense during the second half, Hill does not appear ready to come onto the field, talking to other Dolphins’ wide receivers.

Teammate Jaylen Waddle yells off camera, ‘Hey Cheetah, you done?’ in reference to Hill’s nickname.

In the days since Hill’s self-exile and outburst, Dolphins’ leadership has tried to calm the conversations about a departure for arguably their best player, while maintain their standards of winning and conduct.

Miami general manager Chris Grier stated in a post-season interview that Hill did not demand a trade while having productive talks with him. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was also present for the meeting.

‘We met for, I want to say, an hour yesterday,’ McDaniel said on Tuesday. ‘I think I was very direct with him, he was very honest, and it was great terms that we were discussing. Discussed multiple things, including, without wavering, that it’s not acceptable to leave the game and it won’t be tolerated in the future.’

‘He embraced accountability, and I wouldn’t say there was anything necessarily to fix as much as we had to clear the air in a rough and tumultuous situation.’

Hill’s season also started controversially off the field, as he was dragged out of his car and handcuffed by Miami-Dade police on the way to the Dolphins season opener against the Jaguars around a mile from Hard Rock Stadium.

Although Hill scored a touchdown on the day, he did not follow up his NFL-MVP caliber season in 2023 with another one of similar quality.

After reworking his deal last year, Hill remains under contract for the next two seasons, with salary cap hits of $27.7million (2025) and $51.9m (2026), via OverTheCap.
