Tyreek Hill mystery deepens as Dolphins GM insists star man did not ask for trade in ‘productive’ meeting

Tyreek Hill mystery deepens as Dolphins GM insists star man did not ask for trade in 'productive' meeting

After Tyreek Hill said on Sunday he was ‘out’ of Miami following the first season of his career where he did not make the playoffs, Dolphins general manager Chris Grier has opened up about a ‘productive’ meeting with him.

The Dolphins started the day, with help, one win away from a postseason berth. By the end of their time at MetLife Stadium, Hill had essentially said he wanted to play elsewhere.

Sitting next to head coach Mike McDaniel, Grier said the meeting with Hill did not include him asking for a trade.

Miami acquired Hill in a trade with the Chiefs for five picks. A similar haul would be expected to move one of the best wide receivers in the league. Should the Dolphins be open to moving Hill, there would no doubt be suitors.

‘Mike and I both had conversations with Tyreek here… yesterday, productive conversations, I will keep those between us,’ Grier said on Tuesday. ‘The one thing I would say is in a frustrating season he was emotional in a game where we had a chance, coming back from 2-6… and we’re playing week 18 to sneak into the playoffs.’

‘And I think all of that with him playing through his injuries just kind of bubble to a point and from our conversations, again we’ll keep that private, but we had productive conversations… I would say that he never asked me for a trad.’

McDaniel suggested on Sunday, and doubled down on his comments, that Hill was not injured on Sunday and took himself out of the loss to the Jets.

‘We met for, I want to say, an hour yesterday,’ McDaniel said. ‘I think I was very direct with him, he was very honest, and it was great terms that we were discussing. Discussed multiple things, including, without wavering, that it’s not acceptable to leave the game and it won’t be tolerated in the future.’

‘He embraced accountability, and I wouldn’t say there was anything necessarily to fix as much as we had to clear the air in a rough and tumultuous situation.’

Hill’s season also started controversially off the field, as he was dragged out of his car and handcuffed by Miami-Dade police on the way to the Dolphins season opener against the Jaguars around a mile from Hard Rock Stadium.

Although Hill scored a touchdown on the day, he did not follow up his NFL-MVP caliber season in 2023 with another one of similar quality.

After reworking his deal last year, Hill remains under contract for the next two seasons, with salary cap hits of $27.7million (2025) and $51.9m (2026), via OverTheCap.
