Jets make slew of interview requests for head coaching vacancy

The Jets are leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of the franchise’s next head coach.

The organization has put in requests to interview a slew of coordinators preparing their current teams for the playoffs, including Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith and Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, per reports.

Requests to interview Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph and Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, both of whom have prior head coaching experience with Denver and Chicago, have also been submitted.

A request to speak with Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, formerly coach of the Dolphins, has been submitted, as well as one for 49ers quarterbacks coach Brian Griese.

Other prospective candidates will likely be announced as the aftermath of the 2024 regular season continues.

The Jets have already begun the interview process after firing coach Robert Saleh in October following a 2-3 start.

Former Panthers and Commanders coach Ron Rivera spoke with Jets brᴀss about the role last week, while ex-тιтans coach Mike Vrabel — one of the H๏τtest candidates on the coaching market — interviewed this past Friday.

The Jets, who will also meet with former coach Rex Ryan about the job he held from 2009-14, are not anticipated “to put in a formal request” for Detroit’s offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, according to The Athletic.

The Jets will enter the 2025 season with a whole new regime.

Just weeks after firing Saleh, who went 20-36 throughout three-and-a-half seasons, general manager Joe Douglas was fired.

Owner Woody Johnson told The Post’s Brian Costello exclusively that the incoming tandem will make the call on Aaron Rodgers’ fate.

“The coach will have to decide what the quarterback situation is. That’s going to be a very important job for the general manager and the coach – what do we want and when do we get it and what’s our timeline. Where does Aaron Rodgers fit into that?” Johnson said.

Gang Green finished the season at 5-12.

The Jets are currently one of five head coaching vacancies open.

The Bears and Saints parted ways with Matt Eberflus and Dennis Allen midseason, respectively. The Patriots fired first-year head coach Jerod Mayo on Sunday while the Jaguars let go of Doug Pederson on Monday morning.
