Mrs Brown’s Boys Star Dermot O’Neill Heartbroken After Beloved Wife Dies Following Cancer Battle
Dermot O’Neill, the actor loved by many viewers for his role in Mrs Brown’s Boys, is mourning the heartbreaking loss of his wife, Patricia “Chickie” Maguire, after she pᴀssed away at the age of 60 following a short but devastating battle with stage 4 cancer.
Chickie died peacefully in the early hours of Monday morning at St Francis Hospice in Blanchardstown, surrounded by the love of those closest to her. Her pᴀssing came only months after she received the shocking diagnosis that changed everything for her family.

For Dermot, who had previously fought his own cancer battle before being declared cancer-free in 2020, the pain is especially deep. Chickie had once stood by him during one of the most frightening chapters of his life. Now, in a heartbreaking turn, he had to watch the woman he loved face the same cruel disease.
Patricia, affectionately known as Chickie, first discovered something was seriously wrong after travelling to Spain for what was expected to be a hernia operation. But instead of a routine procedure, doctors found multiple tumours in her stomach. The surgery could not go ahead, and Chickie was later diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. She returned to Ireland, where she began chemotherapy treatment at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.
Despite the shock and pain of her diagnosis, Chickie remained focused on her family. One of the most emotional details from her final months was her wish to live long enough to see one more Christmas. Her dream was not grand or complicated. She simply wanted to kiss her three-year-old granddaughter Ellie, hoping the little girl would remember that loving moment forever.
Those who knew Chickie described her as strong, warm and deeply devoted to the people she loved. She worked at Dunnes Stores in Portmarnock and was known for her dedication, kindness and strong spirit, even while facing serious illness. Her story touched fans of Mrs Brown’s Boys, many of whom sent messages of support after learning about her diagnosis.
Dermot and Chickie had shared many years together, building a life filled with laughter, loyalty and family memories. Their bond was not only seen in happy times, but also in moments of fear, illness and uncertainty. Chickie had been his support when he was unwell, and Dermot remained by her side when she needed him most.
Her final journey was marked by love. Family members held her close, friends offered prayers, and those around her tried to give comfort during the hardest goodbye. While her illness took her far too soon, it did not take away the love she gave or the memories she left behind.

Chickie’s pᴀssing is a painful reminder of how suddenly life can change. A trip meant for one medical procedure became the beginning of a heartbreaking diagnosis. Yet even in the face of fear, she continued to think of her children, her husband and her little granddaughter.
To many, Patricia “Chickie” Maguire will be remembered not only as the wife of a beloved television star, but as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose final wish showed the depth of her love.
Her story is one of heartbreak, courage and devotion — a love story that faced illness, fear and goodbye, but remained strong until the very end.
