New Orleans Saints interested in hiring Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy in huge move

New Orleans Saints interested in hiring Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy in huge move

The New Orleans Saints are reportedly interested in hiring Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy.

The Saints are currently searching for a new head coach after firing Dennis Allen back in November.

Special teams coordinator and ᴀssistant head coach Darren Rizzi took over midway through the season and would also be a contender for the fulltime post.

But Nagy, who returned to Kansas City after getting fired by the Chicago Bears in 2021, is attracting interest just days before the playoffs begin.

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Chiefs fans can expect the Saints to show interest in Nagy.

She also reports that Rizzi will be given a sH๏τ to land the head coach’s role on a permanent basis.

Nagy, a two-time Super Bowl champion, served as the Chiefs offensive coordinator from 2016 to 2017 after two years as the team’s quarterbacks coach.

But he was fired by the Bears in 2021 after a 6-11 season, returning to the Chiefs as a senior ᴀssistant/quarterbacks coach.

However, he won back the offensive coordinator position when Eric Bieniemy left for the same job in Washington in 2023.

It comes just days after Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo admitted he wants another go as a head coach in the NFL.

Spagnuolo is extremely highly regarded in Kansas City and has played a central role in the team’s run to two straight Super Bowl тιтles.

But, speaking as the Chiefs finalize their preparations ahead of the playoffs, Spagnuolo dropped a hint that he sees his future away from the organization.

Asked if he would ever want a sH๏τ as a head coach, he said: ‘I’ll deal with that later.

‘The answer is yes but right now, it’s all about Denver (Chiefs play the Broncos on Sunday). I’ll let all of that take care of itself.’

Spagnuolo’s comments will no doubt put plenty of team on alert, coming at a time when several NFL vacancies are expected to be available in the offseason.

The New York Jets, Saints and Bears all have vacancies available. There is scrutiny over Brian Daboll at the New York Giants and Antonio Pearce at the Las Vegas Raiders.

Mike McCarthy, the Dallas Cowboys head coach, is also nearing the end of his contract.

But there is minimal chance there is an opening at Kansas City. Last year, head coach Andy Reid, 66, ended rumors of a retirement by signing a new five-year deal to stay.
