Why Giants’ meaningless finale is important to Drew Lock

Why Giants’ meaningless finale is important to Drew Lock

PHILADELPHIA — Drew Lock does not have a contract for 2025, and as he makes his fifth start of the season Sunday when the Giants face the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field, he acknowledges this is his last sH๏τ at making an impression before heading off into free agency once again.

“You want to put together great games every single time you play,’’ Lock said. “You need to put together 17 of them just to stay relevant and keep playing football. Try to extend your career as long as you can. The only way you can do that is by putting good things on tape. Every chance you get, go out there and make it the best representation of yourself. That’s the plan every week.’’

Lock struggled to enact that plan in his first three starts this season — he had one touchdown pᴀss and four interceptions (three pick-sixes) in three losses — before a breakout performance in last week’s 45-33 victory over the Colts. Lock threw four touchdown pᴀsses and ran for another score.

“Good, healthy. Spirits high after last week,’’ Lock said. “I’m excited to go out and get the opportunity to play another one.’’

Lock, 28, is a five-year NFL veteran. He came to the Giants on a one-year deal for $5 million, signed to serve as the backup to Daniel Jones. It is unlikely he did enough this season for the Giants to push to bring him back.

The Giants no longer have a chance at the No. 1 pick in the 2025 draft after the Browns lost to the Ravens on Saturday.

Add OLB Kayvon Thibodeaux to the list of players who want to continue to play for Brian Daboll in 2025.

Wide receivers Darius Slayton and Wan’Dale Robinson told The Post this past week that they believe Daboll deserves to return.

“I mean, he’s a great coach,’’ Thibodeaux said. “I love him. I think he’s a player’s coach. I think he has great philosophies. Sometimes things just don’t shake out for the season or whatever it may be. I got total confidence in the organization and total confidence in the coaching. So, I don’t know how it’ll shake out, but things will happen how they’re supposed to.’’

Robinson has a career-high 83 receptions in his third season, with an NFL-high 32 catches on third down.

Three-time Pro Bowler Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Lions is next with 30 receptions on third down.

With Evan Neal (rib/hip) out, the Giants will use their 10th different offensive line combination this season. The Patriots also have used an NFL-high 10 different O-line combos.

The starter in place of Neal at right tackle will be Chris Hubbard or Tyre Phillips.

Hubbard was a fill-in starter at right tackle for three games this season. Phillips started 14 games for the Giants the past two seasons.

He tore a quad muscle late last season and was re-signed to the practice squad in November.

OT Tyre Phillips and OLB Boogie Basham were elevated from the practice squad for the game and RB Dante “Turbo’’ Miller was signed from the practice squad.
