Jauan Jennings block sparks fight in wild 49ers-Lions ‘MNF’ shootout

The 49ers and Lions sure know how to put on an entertaining show for a game that meant nothing to either team.

On the first possession of a “Monday Night Football” shootout, 49ers budding receiver Jauan Jennings finished a block on Lions corner Terrion Arnold, and tempers erupted as Jennings was thrown into the stands.

Jennings initially escalated the incident by pushing Arnold into the endzone and onto the ground near the sideline wall.

The 49ers receiver got the better of the exchange between the two, but defensive playmaker Kerby Joseph came to Arnold’s rescue, flying in for a hit that sent Jennings into the stands.

With Jennings in the front row attempting to climb out, Arnold came in with a slap across the receiver’s facemask as multiple flags were thrown.

No one was thrown out of the game, and the penalties were offsetting.

The run play to Isaac Guerendo went for no yards as the 49ers would ultimately finish the drive with a short touchdown pᴀss to rookie receiver Ricky Pearsall.

Jennings finished the game with seven catches for 67 yards as San Francisco came up just short in the 40-34 defeat.

Jennings is among the league’s best run-blocking wide receivers, according to Pro Football Focus, grading out as the sixth-best in the league in 2024 and third-best in 2023.

The fifth-year pro has enjoyed a career-best season as a wideout with 923 yards and six touchdowns for the injury-riddled 49ers, who lost star receiver Brandon Aiyuk for the season with a torn ACL.

San Francisco is in the midst of a disappointing season where they sit in last place in the NFC West with a 6-10 record.

They close out the season Sunday against the Cardinals, who also have nothing to play for.

Detroit gets a date on “Sunday Night Football” with the Minnesota Vikings for the right to get the No. 1 seed in the NFC and a bye in the playoffs.
