Tom Brady left fans stunned with odd pronunciation of common football term

Tom Brady’s pronunciation of one of the most common terms in football left fans both stunned and having a good chuckle at the Fox Sports analyst’s expense.

It happened when the seven-time Super Bowl champion was going over a play that saw Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold getting sacked by the Packers late in the second quarter at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday.

It promoted Brady to comment on how he felt the former Jets signal-caller was holding onto the ball too long and taking too many sacks this season at 46, despite Minnesota eventually moving to 14-2 after a 27-25 win.

“They’ve done such a good job in protection today,” Brady said. “Sam may have a little sense of comfort, [but] at some point you’ve gotta get rid of the ball. He’s held onto the ball quite a bit this season and he’s taken a lot of sacks. Almost 46 sacks this season alone.”

Except the 47-year-old Brady’s pronunciation of sacks sounds more like saucks or even socks, and fans had some theories why, including how many years he spent in New England playing for the Patriots and his California roots.

“Cali + Boston accent got him,” one X user wrote.

Added another: “Bros Boston accent clicked in real quick.”

“He must have been thinking of the retailer on 5th Ave,” another user chimed in

Others didn’t try to overanalyze, but just had some fun with a pronunciation that took them off guard with one user asking: “yeah what is this.”

It wasn’t the only awkward moment Brady had on the broadcast.

During the game intro, Brady couldn’t remember that the Vikings had beaten the Packers in their first meeting this season — which seems like a critical piece of information to set up what fans were about to watch with the NFC North still up for grabs.

“They’ve got four losses this year, Green Bay does,” Brady said who is in the first year of a 10-year, $375 million contract with Fox. “Two of them to the Lions, they’re a good team. The Eagles, they lost to them, they’re a good team. And they lost to the, uh … who’d they lose to the other one? Anyway …”
