Paul Mescal promotes his upcoming hosting debut on Saturday Night Live alongside musical guest Shaboozey

Paul Mescal promoted his upcoming appearance on Saturday Night Live in clips alongside musical guest Shaboozey and the sketch comedy show’s cast member Chloe Fineman.

The 28-year-old actor appeared in two short clips ahead of the episode set to air on NBC this upcoming weekend and be later available to stream on Peacock.

The Gladiator II star will be making his first-ever hosting appearance on the late-night sketch comedy show a week before his girlfriend, singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams, is set to make her own debut as the musical guest alongside guest host Chris Rock.

Ahead of his debut, Mescal partook to two skits alongside the A Bar Song hitmaker and Fineman.

The trio joked about how Mescal’s surname is hard to pronounce in two clips while Fineman swooned over him in another skit.

After the Normal People actor introduced himself and Shaboozey, Fineman interrupted him with non-sequiturs while revealing her crush on him.

‘Hi, I’m Paul Mescal and I’m hosting SNL this week with Shaboozey,’ the actor said at the beginning of one skit.

‘Thank you, but I have a boyfriend,’ Fineman interjected.

‘What?’

She continued: ‘I’m very flattered. It’s just the timing’s not right.’

Mescal responded, confused: ‘I wasn’t asking you to—.’

‘Fine, fine,’ she said. ‘Give me a week. I can make him go away.’

‘I think she’s just hearing what she wants to hear,’ Shaboozey explained, to which Mescal responded. ‘Yeah, right.’

Fineman added: ‘Sunday brunch would be amazing.’

Finally, Mescal interrupted her and said: ‘No, I’m good. I’m good.’

‘Hi, I’m Paul Mescal and I’m hosting SNL this week with Shaboozey.’

Fineman excitedly declared: ‘We’re getting tipsy on Mezcal this week.’

To which, Shaboozey said: ‘Let’s do it.’

In a serious manner, the actor interjected them to correct their pronunciation of his name. ‘It’s Mescal,’ he said.

‘I know, Paul. It was a joke,’ Fineman explained.

He laughed in response, ‘Oh yeah, I got it now,’ before a serious look made its way on his face again and he reemphasized the pronunciation of his name. ‘It’s Mescal.’

At the mood change, Shaboozey said simply, ‘D***,’ while Fineman apologized, ‘I’m so sorry.’

In another skit, the trio played on the same joke.

‘Hi, I’m Paul Mescal and I’m hosting SNL this week with Shaboozey,’ the actor began.

‘Oh! I just realized your name is Paul Mescal,’ Fineman interjected. ‘I always thought it was first name Paulmes, last name Cal.’

Mescal appeared confused at her comment: ‘You did?’

‘You must get that a lot,’ Shaboozey said to him.

‘No. Literally never.’

Then, Fineman and Mescal went back and forth with his name.

‘Paulmes… Paul Mescal… Paulmes Cal…,’ they exchanged before the actor concluded the skit.

‘See you on Saturday!’
