A huge ITV drama has been ‘axed after three series’.
The Tower, staring Gemma Whelan, Emmett J Scanlan and Tamzin Outhwaite, is set have the plug pulled, according to The Sun.
ITV’s move to cancel the show reportedly came as a surprise to the team as it believed that work had already begun on writing the script for the fourth season.
A channel spokesperson told the publication: ‘The Tower was much loved by the audience who watched the drama but the viewing figures for the last series did not reach expectations so sadly we won’t be recommissioning.’
Set in south London and based on a trilogy of novels by former policewoman Kate London, the stories centre on a high-rise block where serious crime is endemic.

Game Of Thrones star Gemma returned as DS Sarah Collins, who was part of a group of detectives investigating serious crimes in central London.
While Peaky Blinders star Emmett played the character of rule-bending inspector Kieran Shaw.
Jimmy Akingbola also starred as DC Steve Bradshaw in the show.
The show attracted over five and a half million viewers in 2021 but for the third series, it lost over a million during the first four episodes.
And it may not come as a surprise as the first episode left some viewers a little lost, as they complained that the storyline was confusing and they couldn’t get to grips with who was who.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, to share their opinions on the new series, viewers wrote: ‘I’m so glad I’m not the only one who is lost, I have no idea what is going on or who is who,’;
‘I’m enjoying it but really haven’t a clue what is going on,’; ‘First time I’ve watched, a bit slow for me so far!’;
‘Well there’s this guy… and then there’s this other guy… and he’s got either a knife or a wife… I think…’;

But not all fans felt the same way, with several rejoicing at the return of the series after ‘cr** TV for months’.

But as he reached the flat of a senior gang member to hand over his stolen spoils, the 15-year-old (Lamar Waves) took a moment to lock up his bicycle.
The phone theft is another in Ryan’s list of crimes, after he led an ᴀssault on a gang rival, kicking and punching him in a shopping mall.
He is also now the sole witness to a fatal stabbing that saw police using a pressure washer to clean blood off the pavement.
The first series of the gritty crime drama in 2021 was praised for the dark human storylines that ran alongside the investigation into the deaths of a young woman and a police officer who had fallen from a London tower block.
