Ariana Grande gathered her loved ones together for a special Wicked screening — including her boyfriend, Ethan Slater.
Slater, 32, joined Ariana, 31, and her grandmother, Marjorie Grande (a.k.a. Nonna), to watch the movie musical on Monday, November 25. “Flew to boca for a day to watch with Nonna,” the pop star captioned a sweet Instagram Story pic of herself and her brother, Frankie Grande, sitting alongside Nonna at the screening. “At the movie theater I grew up going to every weekend. Cinemark 20 in Boca.”
Though Slater was not featured in the family pH๏τo, Ariana tagged her Wicked costar in the Instagram Story post. Slater also got pH๏τo credit for another snap of Ariana, Nonna and Frankie, 41, looking at the big screen. “PH๏τo by @ethanslater :),” Ariana wrote over the pic, which Slater reposted via his own Instagram Story.
Ariana also tagged the film’s director, Jon M. Chu, in the latter post to share her Nonna’s positive reaction to the movie. “Thrilled to report that when the sugar glider had her drum solo nonna exclaimed loudly ‘oh I LOVE that’ @jonmchu,” she shared.

Over on her TikTok, Ariana shared an adorable video of her Nonna watching her character Glinda’s “Popular” musical number. After she hit the song’s final note, Ariana filmed Nonna smiling and giving her a round of applause.
The family outing was one Frankie will never forget. “This was one of the most special moments in my life,” he wrote via Instagram on Tuesday, November 26, alongside Ariana’s pic of them in the theater with Nonna. “I will remember it & cherish it til I’m 99 too.”

Not only did Wicked help spark Ariana’s love for music and acting — she saw the original Broadway production when she was 10 — but it helped launch her relationship with Slater. The couple met while filming the musical’s two-part film adaptation, the second part of which hits theaters in November 2025.
News of the pair’s romance broke in July 2023, shortly after which Slater filed for divorce from his ex-wife, Lilly Jay. The exes finalized their split in September. Ariana, for her part, split from her ex-husband, Dalton Gomez, in July 2023 and filed for divorce that September. Their divorce was finalized in October 2023.

Though the pair have primarily kept their relationship private, the duo have gushed about each other while promoting Wicked, which premiered on Friday, November 22.
“There couldn’t be a less accurate depiction of a human being,” Ariana told Vanity Fair in September while slamming speculation that she and Slater ended their marriages after getting together. “No one on this earth tries harder or spreads themselves thinner to be there for the people that he loves and cares about. There is no one on this earth with a better heart.”

Noting that she “will never go into certain details” about their romance, she continued: “Honestly, it’s taken me a lot of hard work to be able to last this long and to heal certain parts of my relationship to fame and to what I do because of these tabloids that have been trying to destroy me since I was 19 years old. But you know what? I’m 31 years old and I’m not a perfect person, but I am definitely deeply good, and I’m proud of who I’m becoming.”

Slater, for his part, praised his girlfriend’s performance as Glinda in Wicked in an October interview with GQ. “I’m just really, really proud of Ari and the work she’s done on this,” he shared. “She’s poured herself into it. I’m really proud that I got to be there for that part of it, and I’m really excited to be there for this next step of it when the world gets to see the amazing thing that she did.”
He went on to call the Grammy winner “one of the best comedians that’s been in a movie.”
