Did you know The oldest solar obelisk in the world is the Heliopolis Obelisk, located in Egypt.
It was erected during the reign of Pharaoh Sesostris I (also known as Senusret I) of the XII Dynasty, around 1930 BC. This obelisk is located in the ancient city of Heliopolis, one of the most important cities in Ancient Egypt, which was dedicated to the worship of the sun god Ra.
The Heliopolis obelisk, made of red granite, is approximately 20 meters tall and weighs about 120 tons.
It is the only one that remains in its original location, making it an important testimony to ancient Egyptian architecture. In its time, Heliopolis was a major religious center, and obelisks were symbols dedicated to the sun, representing the sun’s rays and the connection between heaven and earth.
This obelisk is particularly relevant because it is one of the earliest examples of this architectural form, which later became popular in other parts of Egypt and the ancient world.
