Drew Lock admits he’s ‘upset’ with Giants pᴀssing over him for Tommy DeVito

It did not take a mind reader to detect that Drew Lock is disappointed, hurt and somewhat confused by what went down earlier this week. He went from the backup quarterback to Daniel Jones to being the backup to Tommy DeVito.

By depth chart logic, that made no sense.

If Lock was the clear No. 2 quarterback on the roster, why did DeVito, the No. 3 quarterback, get pushed ahead of him and into a starting role after the decision was made to send Jones to the bench?

Lock has his thoughts on this, but he initially kept most of them private.

He is 28 years old and wants to stay in the NFL next season.

“There’s a ton of emotions involved in all of it,” Lock said during a press conference Wednesday. “I would say, this is still a business and I want more jobs after this year. If I come in and be ugly and nasty, it just leaves a bad taste in these guys’ mouths, and who knows how fast that spreads.

He later opened up to The Post’s Steve Serby, saying he “didn’t really know how to answer” most of the questions he faced.

“Just upset,” Lock said of being pᴀssed over. “I’d say upset and confused [are] two pretty good words to put in there. You understand where they’re coming from, but at the same time, when you are the [QB2] you expect to just be the next guy up. It’s an interesting situation that I didn’t foresee happening, but one that I’m gonna handle and deal with as a professional, and be who I am as a person.”

“I’m going to come in and be great and not to mention, I’ve been really close with Tommy, it’s more than just a business thing. I appreciate him, he’s a great friend, and I want him to go out there and do well. He deserves to go out there and play well. He deserves to have this team behind him, and I’m excited for him.”

In the offseason, Lock signed a one-year deal for $5 million. He was told he was the backup to Jones — no compeтιтion for the starting job — and he was insurance in case Jones, coming off ACL surgery, was not ready for the start of the season.

It was unfortunate that Lock suffered a hip injury and missed time in training camp, and was unavailable for two preseason games.

“It definitely hindered their ability to watch me in a game setting perform in this offense,” Lock said.

Lock did get the call in Week 4, when Daboll pulled Jones early in the fourth quarter of a 28-3 loss to Eagles.

Lock did not provide a spark, completing 3 of 8 pᴀsses for six yards.

On Monday, GM Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll held three separate meetings — with Jones, Lock and DeVito — and informed the quarterbacks of the new order of things.

Lock said he was told DeVito’s experience in 2023 — he started six games for the Giants — played a big part in him getting pᴀssed over this time.

“Really kept relating it back to the previous year,” Lock said. “He couldn’t tangibly put it into X’s and O’s, but there was a feeling, and I didn’t get to show that.”

Lock said he does not regret signing with the Giants, but he cannot fully come to grips with why he was the No. 2 quarterback all season and did not get promoted.

“Yeah, again that’s a question I might still have for myself,” Lock said. “It was expressed to me that I was going to be [No.] 2, and it’s an interesting situation. Not much I can really say about it, besides I’m gonna be here for [DeVito] and we’re still communicating and still really good friends, believe it or not.”

The practice window for OLB Kayvon Thibodeaux to come off injured reserve was opened Wednesday, and barring a setback he will make his return this weekend.

Thibodeaux has not played since fracturing a bone in his right wrist in Week 5 in Seattle.

“Got to put it out there, see how I feel, get some work and kind of lay it on the line to be ready for Sunday,’’ Thibodeaux told The Post.

Evan Neal did enough in his first start of the season in Week 10 vs. the Panthers to retain the starting job at right tackle.

“Did some good things and some things we can work on with him,’’ Daboll said.

WR Darius Slayton missed the loss in Munich in the concussion protocol. He was cleared and practiced Wednesday.

TE Jordan Murray was signed to the practice squad.
