While interviewing Hugh Grant on his “SmartLess” podcast, Sean Hayes’ cohosts confirmed his recent cardiac issues.

Grant, 64, had revealed that he “can’t do” a transatlantic flight anymore because of his age.

“I woke up hours ago very, very hungry and felt like my heart is made of Play-Doh,” Grant quipped on the Monday, November 18, episode, before Hayes’ cohost Will Arnett revealed that the Will & Grace alum “has a doctor for you.”

According to Arnett, 54, Hayes’ medical scare occurred earlier this month.

“Hugh, you should know this. Sean woke up two or three nights ago in the middle of the night with a heart issue, drove himself to Cedars-Sinai, didn’t wake up his husband,” Arnett recalled, referring to Hayes, 54, and his husband, Scott Icenogle. “They brought the paddles out. They put him under. They paddled him. He drove home.”

Arnett added, “An hour later he woke up to use the bathroom, drove himself back to Cedars and got paddled again.”

Hayes chimed in, noting that he and Icenogle, 55, “went to dinner that night.”

Arnett then pointed out, “[Hugh,] so, you’re jet-lagged by comparison. And I’m not saying this to make you feel bad.”

Grant then subsequently joked that he felt “humiliated” by the comparison.

Hayes has not further detailed his recent medical emergency but has previously been candid about living with atrial fibrillation.

“I have AFib, so your heart beats [very fast]. You feel like you’re gonna die,” Hayes said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in May 2021. “So when I go to the ER … at Cedars-Sinai, I’m like Norm from Cheers, because I’m in there all the time.”

He continued at the time, “All I do is I know exactly what needs to be happening. ‘Look, this is how this [is] gonna go. You’re gonna give me propofol. I’m gonna go out, you’re gonna go, ‘Clear,’ [apply the electrode pads], and I’m gonna go home.’ And that’s all this? because it snaps you back into regular rhythm.”

AFib, according to the Mayo Clinic, is a type of arrhythmia that occurs when a heart’s electric impulses beat rapidly and irregularly.

“One time I was in New York with my husband, Scottie, walking down the street and I get AFib and it’s going really fast,” he further recalled to Jimmy Kimmel. “He takes me to the ER and I’m like, ‘Oh, crap, I gotta do the propofol before I’m out [and] dink, I’m back.’ We go to the ER, and for some reason, [the doctors] let him stand in the emergency room.”

According to Icenogle, the comedic actor suddenly exclaimed, “This is amazing,” once he was revived.
