Wallace And Gromit’s epic TV return date confirmed in new BBC trailer for festive film Vengeance Most Fowl

The BBC have confirmed Wallace And Gromit’s epic TV return with the release of a new trailer.

The festive film, Vengeance Most Fowl, will premiere on Christmas Day on BBC iPlayer and BBC One.

Wallace and Gromit are set to encounter their returning arch-nemesis Feathers McGraw – 16 years after their previous adventure.

The highly-anticipated feature-length film sees Gromit’s growing concern as Wallace becomes over-dependent on his inventions – which proves justified when Wallace creates a ‘smart gnome’ that seems to develop an evil mind of its own.

As events begin to spiral out of control, it’s up to Gromit to put aside his qualms and battle sinister forces, or Wallace may never be able to invent again.

But who could possibly be behind such evil actions?! Rightfully behind bars for all this time, Feathers McGraw is back with vengeance.

The villain was last seen in 1993’s Bafta and Academy Award-winning short The Wrong Trousers.

The voice cast will feature Ben Whitehead as Wallace, the eccentric, cheese-loving inventor from the North of England who lives with his best friend and loyal pooch, Gromit.

The BBC will celebrate the premiere of Vengeance Most Fowl with three specially commissioned short videos.

Featuring Wallace, Gromit and new character Norbot in a variety of locations, the festive videos – created by Aardman – will play out on BBC One between programmes for the entirety of December.

Fans were delighted in 2022 when it was announced that Wallace and Gromit will be back for a Christmas 2024 feature film.

And now fresh casting details have been revealed for the new movie – which will see comedian Peter Kay return to his role as Chief Inspector Mackintosh.

The new film will be 70 minutes long and features the return of the iconic penguin supervillain Feathers McGraw.

Ben Whitehead will return as the voice of Wallace. He stars along with new cast members Lauren Patel (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Lloyd Of The Flies) and Reece Shearsmith (League Of Gentleman, Inside No.9).

There will also be cameos from Diane Morgan (After Life, Motherland), Adjoa Andoh (Bridgerton, Invictus) and Lenny Henry (Three Little Birds, The Rings Of Power).

The new Wallace and Gromit feature film comes over a decade after their last special, A Matter Of Loaf And Death.

The first teaser short trailer showed Feathers leaving prison and getting ready to cause more havoc.

The new film comes from the creative team at Aardman, who are also behind the popular children’s TV series Shaun The Sheep.

As events spiral out of control, it falls to Gromit to put aside his qualms and battle sinister forces – or Wallace may never be able to invent again.

The film follows the latest Shaun The Sheep caper The Flight Before Christmas, a Wallace & Gromit spin-off which aired on BBC One in 2021.

Nick Park, creator of Wallace and Gromit and co-director of Vengeance Most Fowl, said: ‘I’d had the idea of a film about garden gnomes turning bad for more than a decade, but I could never work out what made them bad.

‘It occurred to me that the single most asked question I get when I meet fans is, will the penguin Feathers McGraw, Wallace and Gromit’s original antagonist from The Wrong Trousers 30 years ago, ever return?

‘We’ve had fun bringing him back in cameo capacities but now, three decades on, it felt like the right time. Then it hit me: What if Feathers was involved with these gnomes?

‘We’re hoping that this film will appeal to fans of ‘Gnome Noir’ everywhere and that people will be gratified when they see what Feathers has been up to since The Wrong Trousers.’

Co-director Merlin Crossingham added: ‘While we love to revive enthusiasm across our existing fan base, we also want this film to reach people who have never come across Wallace and Gromit before.

‘Hopefully, Vengeance Most Fowl is full of everything people love about Wallace and Gromit while introducing new themes to their ongoing story.’

And Charlotte Moore, chief content officer at the BBC, said: ‘This new feature-length Wallace and Gromit film will captivate audiences of all ages this Christmas on the BBC, as the longed-for return of Feathers McGraw and some ingenious inventions including a “smart gnome” make for an unmissable adventure showcasing British creativity at its best.’

The series already comprises four short films and one feature-length film along with numerous spin-offs and TV adaptations.

The feature film The Curse Of The Were-Rabbit is the second highest-grossing stop-motion animated film of all time with $192.6 million.

The upcoming film will premiere on the BBC in the UK and on Netflix in the rest of the world.
